Slacktivity Slackline Bungees
After many months of testing and optimizing, we finally have some amazing slackline bungees. The coolest thing about them: They are adjustable depending on the tension of the slackline.
Why would you use Bungees in slackline systems?
Bungees make your slackline more bouncy. Beside adding a lot of fun, this has the following advantages:
- You can bounce on very short slacklines and learn to use the dynamics e.g. for easier sit mounts.
- Falling will become much softer on short highlines. Leash falls will therefore become more fun and safer.
- The forces in the slackline system will decrease which leads to smaller peaks on the anchor points.
- In Highline Freestyle you will already be able to make crazy sessions on a length of only 40m or even less. Many locations that have been considered too short will come back into focus for occasional sessions or even permarigs.
- Also in Highline Freestyle you will have new possibilities to stick much crazier tricks than ever before.
- In Tricklining you also get the option to jump on shorter locations.
Adjustable Slackline Bungees
The standard configuration is to use 4 loops (8 parallel ropes). This is optimal for a standing tension of your slackline of 1.5 – 2kN. This is great for park lines of up to 30m length and short beginner highlines. For bigger forces, add 1 loop.
In Highline Freestyle
- 3 Loops are optimal for lengths < 50m
- 4 Loops are optimal for lengths of 45 – 65m
- 5 loops are optimal for lengths > 60m
All depending on your preferences. For permarigs it is better to add 1 loop as the bungee will slightly stretch over time.
For expert use, even more fine tuning is possible by adding extra bungees that can e.g. be fixed with prusiks and be clipped in and out on the go.
Different Models
You can choose 4 different models from very short to super long, depending on your needs.
Slackline Bungee S: With a total cord length of 300cm, this Bungee has a functional length of around 25cm when used with 4 loops. it is great if you just wanna have a little extra bounce and do not want to extend your anchor points too much. Adding such a bungee will make a Freestyle Highline feel ~5m longer per bungee (so 10m if bungees are added on both anchors) while keeping the typical Nylon bounce. It is totally OK to have only 1 bungee in the system and none on the other side.
Slackline Bungee M: With a total cord length of 420cm, this Bungee has a functional length of around 40cm when used with 4 loops. These bungees are still rather short while already adding a serious extra bounce to your slackline. A freestyle rig will already feel clearly different to a nylon rig, but not yet have the typical “bungee only” feel. With these bungees we clearly recommend using one on each anchor to not have a big side-bounce.
Slackline Bungee L: With a total cord length of 628cm, this Bungee has a functional length of around 66cm when used with 4 loops. These bungees will seriously slow down the speed of your slackline. Totally different tricks will be doable on such a highline. These bungees are a great choice if you want to feel some big change to your normal freestyle rig. Or if you want to set up some really short freestyle highline.
Slackline Bungee XL: With all of the above options, you should still use a nylon slackline for Highline Freestyle. However, if you prefer using a polyester or high-tech webbing, then the XL version is the right choice for you! It comes in with a total cord length of 1220cm, this Bungee has a functional length of around 140cm when used with 4 loops..
Side notes
- For bungee fixation you can use the 35cm SlingShady or a 12mm D-Shackle. The bigger the radius of the fixation tool, the better for the bungee. Try not to always use the exact same place of your bungees when attaching them.
- Ideally use your bungees – specially the long ones – in an equalization anchor to have as little weight as possible shaking in the slackline system.
- In case the equalization anchor is not perfect, it is possible to add e.g. a 12mm bungee with prusiks to the longer strand to make the equalization anchor more equalized.
- If adding an extra bungee with a prusik, make sure that the prusik rope is not touching the other bungees – this would add friction which would cause damage over time.

Special Uses
- When the Freestyle Line is off-level, you won’t session in the middle. Therefore it will make sense to have a longer (or softer) bungee on the lower side and a shorter bungee on the higher side.
Setup Recommendations
Here we list some configurations that we’ve been testing and that felt great. If you have some personal favourites, you can let us know so we can list them here too.
- 27m Beginner Line. PinkTube with Y2K Backup. 1 Bungee S on one anchor (4 wraps), none on the other. The Line just felt like a perfectly normal pinkTube setup, but the leashfalls were 50% softer!
- 55m Freestyle Line. pinkTube with Y2K Backup. Slackline Bungees M on both sides. When having both bungees with 4 wraps, the line had some great pop to do…
How to Attach the Bungees
You have different options to attach the slackline bungees. On one hand you can wrap them with a 35cm long SlingShady (coming soon) or use a shackle (12mm D-shackle or 14mm shackle) to attach the bungees. If you use a configuration with only 3 wraps or use them in a basket configuration as an equalization anchor, you can also use the KingPin or a 12mm shackle for attaching.
The bigger the diameter of the attachment, the longer the bungees will last.
Disclaimer
The Slacktivity Slackline Bungees are not certified for highline use. This mainly because no certification exists. Once a certification is in place we will aim to certify our bungees. We have measured the breaking strength of the bungees and they are stated in the specifications. Using these bungees at heights happens at your own risk.
Concerning longevity we recommend to replace the bungees after 180 days of use. We have used the prototypes of our bungees in a permarig highline for that long and they still perform well. However, we need to collect more data over time to give more specific recommendations.
Over time the bungees keep extending a bit. This process can be countered by adding small bungees. Also some of the latex fibers will break over time. This is a normal process which happens in every bungee cord. Redundancy in bungee cords is reached by the amount of parallel latex fibers. Having a few of those tearing (mainly due to friction) will of course affect the power and breaking strength of the cords but will only become relevant when many of the fibers tear. Having a few fibers sticking out of the mantle is normal after a few months of use.
For safety we recommend backing up your highline bungees with a spanset. The spanset should have a length of maximum 250% of the length of the initial bungee length. So when e.g. using the Bungee M with 4 wraps it has an initial length of 40cm. So the spanset stopping it from over-extending should have a length of 1m if fixed at the same place.
